The Weather in Orvieto

Umbria enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate, with generally dry, hot summers and cold winters. Recent winters have been particularly dry. The Apennine mountain range that runs along the region’s north-eastern border with the Marche protects Umbria from the extreme climatic variations that occur in the Adriatic.

Although Orvieto enjoys a pleasant climate all year round, the best time to tour the city is certainly between the end of winter in February or March and the beginning of autumn in October.

The raised position of Orvieto means that the city enjoys a fresh temperature in the evenings, even in summer. Visitors are therefore advised to bring something warm even in the high season. Consult the shopping section of this website if you plan to spend some time checking out the city’s shops.
