Folklore - Processions to the Madonna della Stella Hermitage
Poggiodomo (Pg). Pilgrimages to the Madonna della Stella hermitage will begin on May 11th and continue until the first Sunday in June.

In 1833 two shepherds seeking shelter in this area discovered a 15th century fresco of the Madonna that was among the hidden ruins of an ancient church. The local inhabitants all decided to contribute towards the reconstruction of a church on the spot.

Folklore - Festa della Palombella in Orvieto
Orvieto (Tr). The Festa della Palombella, which symbolises the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, dates back to 1404. This year's edition will be on May 11th in Piazza Duomo with, as always, fireworks and the white dove descending from the Church of San Francesco towards the Duomo.

Folklore - Festa dei Ceri in Gubbio
Gubbio (PG) Gubbio will be thronging for its Corsa dei Ceri Medieval pageant and race on May 15th, one of the oldest festivals of this kind in Umbria, that dates back to 1160.

The Ceri are three large and extremely heavy wooden poles that depict St Ubaldo, St George and St Anthony. The poles are carried along the winding Medieval streets of Gubbio by men from the town's three districts, who compete to see which team can arrive first and win the coveted Palio.

Orvieto (Tr) Originally the aim of the Palio dell’Oca joust was for the knight to charge two dead geese and try to skewer them on his lance. Today's edition, during which the various district of Orvieto vye for the coveted Palio, is played with a piece of white cloth instead of geese and will take place on May 17th in Piazza del Popolo, starting at 9pm.
