Parrano Le Tane del Diavolo

|

The Tane del Diavolo, beneath the village of Parrano, are vast carsic grottoes that open directly into the rock cliff of a gorge. As well as being important geological formations, they are also a major archaeological site in that remains of human settlements from the Eneolithic Period (three thousand years BC) have been unearthed here, making this the earliest trace of human life to have been found so far in all the area around Orvieto.
The area is open to tourists, who can choose to follow a guided tour of the gorge or of the Parrano caves, along an itinerary known as the "Fosso del Bagno Minerale", for a unique experience that combines nature with history and archaeology.
Expert spaeleologist guides are available to take groups of tourists through the gorge, where there is a water spring that emits water at 28°C.
